The Sage Legacy Project of Night Spirit Studio

Witch's Blacke Catte, 16c Woodcut Cross Stitch Pattern

Framed cross stitch of a cat head in the style of a 16th century woodcut.

This pattern is inspired by a page from A rehearsall both straung
and true, of hainous and horrible actes committed by Elizabeth Stile
published in 1579
. I've had this woodcut saved for a while and I felt it would make a lovely tribute to Sage. She has made so many of these historical pieces accessible to cross stitchers and I am honored to add to her collection.

I was drawn to the archaic spelling in this book and picked my pattern's name from this line about Elizabeth’s cat:

“… a Spirite in the fhape of a Blacke Catte, and calleth it Gille, whereby fhe is aided in her Witchcrafte …"
A page from A rehearsall both straung and true, of hainous and horrible actes committed by Elizabeth Stile published in 1579. It features a woodcut of a cat.

About The Project

A group of 13 designers in the cross stitch community came together to honor and commemorate Sage Spirit of Night Spirit Studio. Each designer created a pattern inspired by the legacy of Sage's work. The proceeds will go toward support for Sage's family and maintaining her legacy in the form of her shop.

All 13 patterns are available as a single collection for a limited time.
